WAY back in December 2011 Sully and I dropped some stuff off to Shaun near his office. The problem is his office is no longer just down the freeway, a short 10-15 minute drive from home. He works up by Santa Barbara now, so it was a small trek for us. We were literally in our pajama sweats. No makeup. No showers. We literally threw stuff into the car to make it to him in time. I think we were lucky enough to have time to brush teeth and that was it!
Of course where we were was down the street from the Santa Barbara zoo - a place we know well a frequent a lot. And of course Sully wanted to pop on over. He did sit in the car almost an hour up the freeway like a trooper. There was a time I wouldn't have left my house without a shower - let alone without makeup and clothes that were actually color coordinated and not a day old. I guess that is part of the beauty of having a kid. Thinking what people care about me or how they perceive me is so so so far down on my totem poll these days. Making my kid happy is what sits up at top. And if that meant popping into the zoo looking like a couple of beach bums (and I mean that term quite literally) to make a few memories - then what do I really care if people see I'm wearing two different colored socks and my kid has on sweat pants 2 sizes too small and a pajama shirt?
I found these on my phone from that day and they made me smile. I know he won't remember the time we went to the zoo looking like hobos - but he'll have these. And hopefully it'll make him smile too.
