I gave Sully some pieces of fruit last night and he asked the name of it again.
"Its called mango." I said.
"Oh! I know that song. There was a farmer had a dog and Mango was his name oh! (Muddled words/letters) ... G-O!"
(Insert my laughter here)
"I think if we ever get another dog Sully, his name may have to be Mango now."

3 year check up
You had your 3 year check up this week. At 3 years old you are ...
- In the 95% and up percentile for height at 40 inches ...
- In the 50%-75% percentile for weight at 34 lbs and some change. Pretty much, these are the same exact percentiles you've been in since birth.Way to stay consistent!
- You didn't have to get any shots (Yay!)
- You impressed the nurses by naming your alphabet letters out of order super fast.
- You can name all your colors, animals, the sounds they make and counted pieces of paper correctly.
- You need to get your eyes checked up again for your heterochromia, but its just protocol. Your eyes look great and healthy! One is officially hazel and one is dark brown. Cool!
- You got naked but refused to take off your hockey jersey until we bribed you. You truly bleed hockey, my child. Luckily Dr. S. is a hockey fan too and thought it was super cool you love the sport so much.
- You answered a bunch of questions on a questionnaire the nurse gave you. I couldn't help with the answers - and they completely cracked me up. I was able to snap this quick picture of the form before they took it away. My favorite "Whats a chair used for?" and you said "Tripping over!" I laughed really loud when that came out of your mouth. You're hilarious.
- Pretty much, Dr. S. said you're growing perfect, developmentally on target, to stick with your skating so you can join our town's awesome hockey league and don't come back until you're 4! Deal.
Firehouse. Well, sort of.
This past Monday I kept Sully for the morning and took him to work with me. We joined up with some of my co-workers and my old co-worker D and her son O to go to the firehouse for a field trip. Well, an attempted field trip. About 10 minutes in to our half hour tour they got an emergency call ("Un-urgency Call" if you're Sully) and we had to jam out of that place so they could gear up and go.
Needless to say the pictures are less than stellar because well, we didn't get to see a whole lot and I was taking pictures as we were running out, literally. BUT he did get to see the firemen getting dressed and watch the truck come out lights blazing - so that pretty much made his day.
You can't say we didn't try though.

Fire hoses! Usually the kids get to take turns spraying them - whomp whomp =/

The zoo
WAY back in December 2011 Sully and I dropped some stuff off to Shaun near his office. The problem is his office is no longer just down the freeway, a short 10-15 minute drive from home. He works up by Santa Barbara now, so it was a small trek for us. We were literally in our pajama sweats. No makeup. No showers. We literally threw stuff into the car to make it to him in time. I think we were lucky enough to have time to brush teeth and that was it!
Of course where we were was down the street from the Santa Barbara zoo - a place we know well a frequent a lot. And of course Sully wanted to pop on over. He did sit in the car almost an hour up the freeway like a trooper. There was a time I wouldn't have left my house without a shower - let alone without makeup and clothes that were actually color coordinated and not a day old. I guess that is part of the beauty of having a kid. Thinking what people care about me or how they perceive me is so so so far down on my totem poll these days. Making my kid happy is what sits up at top. And if that meant popping into the zoo looking like a couple of beach bums (and I mean that term quite literally) to make a few memories - then what do I really care if people see I'm wearing two different colored socks and my kid has on sweat pants 2 sizes too small and a pajama shirt?
I found these on my phone from that day and they made me smile. I know he won't remember the time we went to the zoo looking like hobos - but he'll have these. And hopefully it'll make him smile too.

Birthday party rockers in the house tonight
The night before Sully's birthday party we sent him off to spend the night at my mom's house and to hang out with his Yaya and Uncle B. Shaun and I had a nice date night, I got a little tipsy on something called a smores martini and then we ran home to decorate. Sully really wanted a Chuck and Friends/Construction birthday party, but when I popped into PartyCity to pick up the decorations, they told me they no longer carry "that line" in their stores. And of course it was too late to order online to have it there by Saturday.
Mommy Fail.
So Sully opted for a hockey birthday the last minute. Thanks goodness PartyCity just introduced a NHL line in their stores, and because the Kings made it to the playoffs and are doing rather well (Go Kings Go!) there was a good amount of stuff to choose from. Thankfully it was a small gathering of close friends and family, so it was pretty low key.
I don't have pictures from the birthday party itself - I left that up to my husband and mother in law. I'm sure those will get posted soon. These are a few quick pics I snapped the night before.
I love our chalkboard wall. It goes from ceiling to floor.
The living room. You can't see the fireplace or the stairs but they were decorated too.

Sully's "Jersey" cake that daddy baked. I frosted it. Yeh, don't think I'll be winning Cupcake Wars anytime soon.
My sister, bro-in-law and best friend joined us for his skating lessons in the morning before his party. He got scared again in the beginning and there were some tears (he's scared to fall), but once he got out there he did really, really great.
Enjoying some pizza after all that hard work
Saying goodbye to Aunt Sam (my best friend) who had to go back home that night. She drove all the way out just to spend the day with the birthday boy - and run him around Target that night playing the loudest game of Marco/Polo chase I've ever heard. That's what Aunts are for though right?
It was a fun day. Thank you to everyone for coming and spending the day with our little man!

Birthday festivities - Part 4
Birthdays are a week long thing in our house apparently. Sully took "hockey pucks" to school for his big day at school. (Ding Dongs with iced number 3's on them)
When I picked him up he was wearing this. It was three days and multiple pieces of tape to patch up rips before he took if off.
His teacher's even drew him a Kings logo on it. Love it!
Happy Birthday indeed.
Birthday festivities - Part 3
Even though Sully's birthday party is this Saturday, I still couldn't help but do a little something for his actual birthday day, which was Monday. Once he was asleep, I threw a little something together for him for the morning (with stuff I already had in the house mind you - so it cost me zilch! Yay for free!)
Waking up! The birthday boy eating his pocky sticks. You're allowed to eat whatever you want for breakfast on your birthday in our house.

Blowing our his leapfrog cake. He loves that thing - and the best part is I got it for $6 bucks on a clearance shelf at Target when I almost bought it for him the week before for like $25.00 at Kohls!
Next request - pancake man for breakfast. He's winking because someone swiped his other eye and nose.
Finding out he's playing hookie from school and that Daddy & Mommy are staying home too!
I never get tired of this face.
Next request - Starbucks for lunch and a "coffee" drink.
Toys-R-Us. Request #4 - to sit in EVERY car they had.
The Mini Cooper ...
The Jeep like Grandpa John's ...
The Quad ...
The Police Car ...
Lightning McQueen ...
The Caddy ...
Quad #2 ...
The "Lady" Caddy ...
The pink Mustang ...
The man's Mustang! ...
And finally the firetruck (Shaun was long gone by this point)
Next up - Chuck E Cheese (My husband is a dork)
Playing submarines
What $100 will buy you at Chuck E Cheese
Yaya and Uncle B couldn't wait till Saturday either. They brought over a birthday cake with Sully's favorite - chocolate cake and mint ice cream inside. Yummy!
