Ch ch changes ...

I just had a serious case of deja vu. I'm pretty sure this time last year I posted with the same title. Funny how much a year really does change.

This year has been a whirlwind. I'm gearing up to start planning for Sullly's birthday party in 1 1/2 months. Hard to believe right? My little baby is looking and acting more and more like a little boy everyday. He has 6 teeth, has been attempting to let go of things and take a step (before he falls), can say Mama, Dada, and Duhduhduh (Dog, haha!). He's learned how to clap, pat his mouth, and dance which melts my heart. He can give open mouth kisses and I guarantee you'll never get a better hug from someone so little. We've also learned the art of throwing tantrums, understand no, run away (crawling like the wind) when we've been into something naughty and crawling on top of things.

He loves animals and I see so much of myself in how he is with them. He goes crazy for kitties and dogs. We saved a baby hummingbird earlier this week that our cat injured. When I brought it into the house and got ready to feed it, he was sitting on my lap. It's amazing to think that a 10 month old child can harbor compassion and concern, but he did. The look on his face was like when he sees another baby crying, somehow, he knew that little bird was hurt. A child that rarely lets a second go past without moving or squealing, sat quietly - no squirms, no screams - and watched me take care of the baby bird. He's just an amazing human being that I fall more in love with every day. I'm so glad that he's my son.

He's doing great this session in his Mommy and Me music class. The child that refused to leave my lap the end of last year, so refuses to sit in it, instead opting to play in the circle time with the musical instruments and other children. He crawls around the center like he owns it. He takes all the shakers from other children like he owns those too. We're working on that.

I've started focusing on myself a little more these days. I'm walking/running and hiking with my sister about 4 times a week. We've done no less than 3 miles every time. On the off days I work out on the Wii, which I love and find super convenient to use when Sully is down for the night. Since the beginning of the year I've lost 11 lbs, which I'm super excited about since losing weight is no small thing for me. I'm watching what I'm eating, but I'm really hesitant to say the word "diet" because it really isn't. I'm just making better choices and trying to be a better example for my son. For the first time I was able to zip up my pre-pregnancy pants. Now if I could just WALK in them ....

I'm also looking to put my energy into other things rather than ice cream and trash TV. I'm trying hard to find my creative streak in writing again, something that I'm finding I miss a lot more than I thought I did. I also have a couple books that I've been meaning to read as well as a knitting kit my mom bought me for Christmas that I'm looking to try to start using.

We've also started the early stages of applying for a home loan! Shaun's cousin Krista has been awesome enough to offer her help (she's a loan officer) and is pretty optimistic that she can find us a loan to qualify us to get into something larger than a cracker box. We really didn't want to move back out into an apartment or home rental and watch all that money each month go down the drain. We will if we have to, but it's not our first option. So here we are. We have our fingers crossed that if we continue at the pace we're going. we'll be able to start seriously looking by the end of the year and have a nice down payment to put towards something.

Work has been crazy busy. I'm not sure if we're seeing a lot more applications because of the economy, if my time feels so much more limited than ever before with a crazy energetic baby boy on my hands or what but I've had stacks and stacks of work on my desk. Being out sick for a week almost with this nasty virus hasn't done me any favors either. Speaking of, I hear my desk calling my name.

Way too long

Oh my little blog, how I have abandoned thee.

Be back shortly after a word from our sponsors.

8 months

My my its been awhile.

I'm mainly over on Facebook these days, but for the few that I keep in touch with still via the Space, I figured I'd post a short little update.

Sully is almost 8 months old - yes, eight. I can't believe it. Before I know it I'll be saying I can't believe that he's 8 years old.

Crawling will soon be a thing of the past. Our bets are that by Christmas, if not shortly there after he'll be walking. He stands on everything and cruises with the help of the couch, toy buckets, boxes or anything else he can get his hands onto. He's discovered the stairs now and can climb up them, lord help us. We're both already finding gray hairs as it is. He also chases the dogs now and I'm convinced that he thinks he is one. I found him the other morning eating the dog kibble in the kitchen and then later with a dog bone in his mouth. He takes their toys away, and likes to feed them his biscuits. He loves getting dirty, hates being cleaned up & dressed - basically all boy, and I love it.

He talks like crazy, the occasional Mamamamamamama and Dadadadadadadad followed by a ton of spitting sounds, so I don't think it really qualifies yet as Mommy and Daddy, just fun sounds. His favorite thing to do these days is take baths. He really enjoys being in the water, and I'm looking forward to swim lessons this next summer coming.

We finally got to take him to his first Hockey game - full circle. He did AWESOME considering he sat for almost 4 hours. Shaun got him his first hockey stick and he loved it.

All and all we're doing great. Looking forward to spending this holiday with family and friends and our little guy during his first Christmas. Next thing we'll know it'll be time to start planning his birthday (exciting!). Then Shaun and I will be off to our first vacation without Sully (eeek!). Mexico here we come .... well, maybe not quite yet.

Happy Holiday everyone!

On to the next phase ...

I love Sully's swing. It was a gift from my sister. It was one of the few places as a newborn that he would sleep without us holding him.

Sully at about 2 weeks old

It was the one I picked out when Shaun and I went to register for Sully, waddling around Babies R Us picking out everything he would be using shortly.

Sully loves the swing too. He still has a good time in it.

Maybe too good of a time.

He can get out of the belt, pop the lap bar off, and do stuff like this.

Due to my little daredevil, the swing has officially been retired.

6 months

I know its a little late but better late then never. (Even if we are one week shy of his 7 month mark.)

This 6th month has seen Sully's first Halloween. He was an angry elephant.

The pictures from the day he turned 6 months aren't wonderful because he wouldn't stay still - but I guess that would be a perfect way to sum up month six. He's always on the go, a little whirlwind of energy that never seems to slow down - even in his sleep. If you're asking yourself why I posted a picture of my couch, it would be because it was suppose to be of Sully, but he crawled out of frame before the camera had a chance to shoot.

Month 6 has brought crawling & raspberries. Sully learned how to raspberry his lips this month. He can also babble with sounds that sound more like syllables and vowel sounds than infant coos and ahhs. He can close down his "baby laptop" (that sounds ridiculous I know) when it says Bye-Bye.

He tries to stand on anything he gets his hands on and loves to chase his dogs around the house.

This month we also started Mommy and me classes. He has been on his second Vegas trip and likes to help change his diaper, much to my dismay. Its not that I don't appreciate the help, I just don't appreciate poop hands as much as he does I guess.

If this sounds a little
redundant at times from other posts its probably because it is. I do these monthly "The day he turned" .. such and such age because I'm putting him together a digital scrapbook for his first year, much like the one I put together of the first 9 months I was pregnant up till his birth day. Its easier for me to go back and grab these ones then it is to fish stuff out - so bear with me at times!

Sully Monster - you're keeping me on my toes!

The half year mark

I never really understood what people meant when they would say to be careful how quickly time will past you once you have a child. I sit here amazed that it's already been 6 months and a couple weeks since Sully graced us with his presence.

He had his 6 month checkup and officially weighed in at 18 pounds and 12 ounces (a lot less than I thought he would) and was 28 & 3/4 inches tall. He's in the 80th and 95th-100th percentiles still. He wasn't too happy with the nurse after the shots and for the first time I got upset during the process. I think its because he's old enough to be aware whats happening now, and it really sucks when he's screaming and crying and clawing at my arms to be picked up.

He's also officially crawling - EVERYWHERE. I'm actually headed to Babies R Us today to pick up some gates because he is into everything. I'm hoping it buys us a little bit of time. He's also using anything he can find to lift himself up onto his feet. I think by Christmas we'll have a walking Sully on our hands. God help us.

We had a nice time in Vegas visiting with Shaun's Dad and step-mom and step-brother Matt. Sully was a trooper during the drive. We got smart and left the night before we were due to check out so he would just sleep the whole ride home. He had fun visiting with his Grandpa and Grandma, and showing them everything he can do now. He was so proud of his two teeth and showed them off every chance he could get.

We had a fun Halloween. Our street had a block party for all the kids and later in the evening a bunch of our friends and their kids came over to hang out around the fire pit for a bit. Sully was an elephant, and none to happy about it. Maybe next year he'll be a little more excited about it.

Sully and I have also been going to Mommy and Me Music classes at my work every Tuesday. He's been going through this shy phase all of a sudden, so the first class he just screamed through. The second one he sat on my lap and watched everyone - even ventured out onto the rug with the other babies and few times. I'm hoping this week will be a little better yet. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that he would be such a cuddly, needy child. I'm not that way AT ALL, and never was as a baby or child. Shaun was pretty independent as well from the stories I hear. Its not that I mind it - I know as soon as he starts walking he's going to take off and never look back, so I am enjoying this phase while we have it.

Sleeping is still proving to be a bear. We've been letting him CIO, but he's stubborn as all hell. One night he screamed for almost 3 hours. We keep asking ourselves when this is suppose to get better or catch on. But we're doing it, with some modifications as we go along - figuring what works out best for us.

Pictures will follow soon!
